Archie

Archie is a chipper and fun 1 year old male border collie. He’s endlessly entertaining with his sploots, pounces, tippy-tap paws, and other goofy antics. He has endless enthusiasm and stays close by. He is playful and enjoys affection.

Archie is a dog of action and loves to work. He loves to play frisbee and tug and is very food motivated. He will enthusiastically work for kibble!

He’s a persistent learner and is happy to try different behaviors if he’s not sure what you want. He’s a curious dog who treats obstacles like a puzzle and likes to get into things. For example he is quick to put paws up on the counter to check for eggs, look for toys, or steal a lick of crumbs off a plate, but he can be redirected and learn to leave things alone. For this reason, he would do best in a home where his curiosity and persistence would be seen as positive traits and channeled towards tricks and sports rather than seen as a nuisance.

He also struggles to settle and is learning how to chill outside of his crate but will need to continue to work on relaxation.

He hasn’t shown any sound sensitivity or fear. He has done great at ignoring other dogs in the neighborhood and plays very nicely and respectfully with other dogs.

While Archie previously lived with a cat he finds them over stimulating, but we would consider placing him with a very dog savvy cat with slow introductions.

He has done well with nose work, disc, flyball, and agility foundations and would make a wonderful sport dog prospect. He was evaluated on sheep and didn’t turn onto them in that first exposure. He travels well in the car, waits patiently and quietly in the car crate when it’s not his turn, and handles new situations and places very well.

Archie is a sweet and optimistic dog who is nice to live with aside from his tendency to get into things and difficulty settling. Given his persistence and energy he would be best suited for an active home that will satisfy him with a lot of training.
