About Banksy

Banksy is a 4 yr old Border Collie/Catahoula mix. He had lived with his previous family since he was 4 months old.

Banksy was a pandemic pup and it shows as he can get easily startled by sudden movements and noises. Being in his foster home only a few short weeks he has made great strides in becoming more confident. Patience and routine go a long way in Banksy’s world.

He can be a bit apprehensive when meeting new people. He will cautiously smell them but soon warms up to them. You may hear a few woofs when someone comes to the door but overall he is a quiet boy.

His relinquishment to NEBCR was do to a family situation and no fault of his own. You get both sweetness and intelligence in the Banksy package. He was definitely taught manners in his previous home since he is not a counter surfer and prefers his bed to yours or the sofa. He goes right to his bed when we go to the bedroom.

In the morning he will not budge until you verbally say good morning Banksy, then his tail starts waggin’ and he rolls over on his bed for his morning belly rubs. Like most dogs, he loves his belly rubs and behind scratches. Banksy also has a good off switch when properly exercised being more than happy to just hang out with his people.

Walks, car rides and playing ball are some of the activities you will find pleases him the most. When he first arrived this 60lb. muscle man would take us for a walk! Now with proper training, the proper amount of exercise and a no pull harness he is much more manageable. This is a work in progress but now we are the ones taking him for a walk.

Now that we have gone over Banksy more endearing qualities it’s time for the rest of the story. He is a bit of a picky eater and likes what I like to call a topper to his meal; a little canned food and a few sprinkles of Parmesan cheese mixed into his dry food seems to do the trick. Hey, who can blame him? Kibble has to be boring day after day for a dog.

Banksy also has a very manageable skin condition. Being mostly white his skin tends to be more pink especially during exercise, at first this was thought to be part of the issue, but it turns out to be much simpler. Now and then he will start to itch, but after a process of elimination the right medication has been found, yay! Medication given to him when he starts scratching seems to do the trick to help control it. He will need a medicated bath every 10-14 days. Currently Banksy gets his bath in the shower which he does without obligation as he doesn’t move a muscle after walking right into the shower. He patiently stands while being lathered up and rinsed off. Towel drying is the best part of bath time.

Banksy has been an only dog in his previous home and his foster home. His foster home took him to a low traffic dog park 2x and he did well with the dogs there. Making having a brother or sister a possibility. We feel it would be best to place Banksy in an adult only home since he startles easily and children are always unpredictable. He could handle the occasional visit from dog savvy children but 24/7 with their friends coming and going would be too much for him to be comfortable.
He would do best in a quiet and calm environment. Given his young age and energy level, he will need a home where he is taken on a long walk/hike each day and also play time with his ball. Currently he has 2-3 games of fetch 15 minutes each and one 1-2 hour walk/hike.

If you’re looking for a loyal sweet boy that has a few requirements of his own to be happy, Banksy will reward you with his loyalty, companionship and always be ready to share a new adventure with you.

NOTE from Banksy: How could you forget to mention how much I LOVE to play with squeaky and squishy toys.
