Baxter is a 2.5-year-old Border Collie with a heart as big as his adorable, expressive eyes. This sweet boy is the full package: affectionate, friendly, and always ready for a game of fetch (seriously—he lives for his ball!).

He gets along wonderfully with people of all ages and is great with other dogs too.

Baxter is also quite the cuddlebug. One of his favorite ways to show affection is gently pressing his head against your leg—his way of saying “I love you” (and maybe asking for a few extra head rubs). His calm, loving nature makes him an ideal companion for a home looking for a loyal, people-focused pup.

He’s crate trained, rides well in the car, and is just beginning to discover the joys of water. Although he hasn’t started swimming yet, he is quite adventurous and enjoys sticking his whole face in the water to explore the bottom.

Baxter came into rescue with a torn cruciate ligament that required TPLO surgery. While he’s healing well, he does have lasting cartilage damage and should remain on a joint supplement for life. His other knee may also require attention in the future. Because of this, he’s not a candidate for high-impact sports, but he still enjoys an active lifestyle filled with long, leisurely walks and playtime.

Baxter also has a bit of a fascination with cats. He can be a little obsessive at first, but with time, structure, and proper introductions, he’ll likely learn to coexist peacefully with feline friends.

Baxter is usually quiet however he does bark a bit when he is excited, especially at meal times and when the human starts getting ready for a walk. He is learning to redirect his excitement towards a toy instead of barking but will need to continue his training in his new home.
