Blu

Blu is a petite, border collie/pomeranian mix, who absolutely loves his ball. If you have a ball, he will follow you anywhere. Blu being 4 1/2 has endless energy but will settle for a nice nap, feet up is his preferred position.

He’s house trained and very food motivated which makes him very willing to learn new commands and tricks. We are making progress with his stay. He currently weighs in at 35lbs making him a perfect size for a snuggly roommate.

Blu had been with his owner since a pup until a baby entered the picture. Unfortunately she learned that Blu is not a good fit for a home with kids and due to his history he will not be placed with them.

Blu has been unpredictable with other dogs. He seems more comfortable with smaller dogs and is able to walk nicely on a leash with another dog along, but he’s also been known to go after other dogs without obvious provocation. In some cases this has happened with dogs he was previously good with. He’s never injured another dog but given his history, he must be placed as an only dog.

Blu walks well on a leash enjoying the smells of exploring new places. His recall needs work so he cannot yet be trusted off leash but generally stays engaged when he has a ball or frisbee.

He becomes VERY excited and barks when someone new comes into the home. He can’t wait to greet them running and jumping at the prospect of meeting a new friend. With his ball obsession it became important to set a house rules, no ball play in the house. If Blu had his way ball would be a 24/7 proposition; therefore we only play ball outside. Some impulse control training may help Blu with his excitability.

Overall Blu’s health is good, but he came into rescue with a history of some chronic health concerns that have needed to be addressed from time to time. We’re working with a vet to get a handle on this and now believe he may have been misdiagnosed in the past. We don’t have a definitive answer yet. He’s not currently on any medication on an ongoing basis and is in great shape. We’ll update when we know more.

A perfect home for Blu would include a quiet environment where he can thrive, no kids, only dog and fenced yard. He needs an active home willing to take long walks and play fetch, by far his favorite pass time. A home having experience with energetic, excitable dogs willing to train with Blu would be a plus. If you are able to provide this for Blu he will reward you with lots of cuddles on the couch and becoming your constant companion following you closely as you go about your day. This sweet boy deserves a home that can give him the love and attention he needs.
