About Casey
** Adoption Pending **
Casey is a gorgeous rust-and-white Border Collie who is every bit as sweet as he is handsome. He is a confident, social boy with a wonderfully soft and sensitive personality. He loves people, enjoys affection, and wants to be close to his humans without needing to be entertained every minute.
One of Casey’s nicest qualities is his ability to settle. After exercise or play, he is perfectly happy to lie quietly nearby while his people go about their day. He loves scratches behind the ears, belly rubs, and curling up next to you on the couch. He is very tuned in to his people—even a cough or sneeze gets his attention.

Casey is smart, highly food motivated, and loves to learn. He already knows sit, down, spin, stay, and “go crate,” and picks up new skills quickly. He walks fairly well on a loose leash and is learning not to jump when greeting people.
His recall still needs work, especially when that Border Collie brain—and nose—find something interesting. Casey loves following scents and is an enthusiastic digger, particularly when he discovers a mole trail. A secure physical fence is required, and he should be kept on a long line in unfenced areas. His love of using his nose also makes us think he might enjoy nose work or other scent-based activities.

Casey loves long “sniff walks,” swimming, and playing ball—and he can make some impressive jumps to catch one! We think he could be a fun candidate for activities such as agility or dock diving. But once the fun is over, he is quite content to relax with his people.
He has been comfortable around traffic, motorcycles, vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers, and power tools and is not a car chaser. He loves meeting men, women, and children. He has had limited dog testing so far, but he loved the dog he met and wanted to play nonstop. He has not been tested with cats.
Casey is crate trained and sleeps quietly in his crate, although he would much rather be near his humans. He also did wonderfully at the vet and is comfortable being handled.
Casey does have one other weakness: food! He is an accomplished counter surfer and very efficient “floor vacuum,” so his new family will need to keep food out of reach and continue working on “leave it” and good kitchen manners.

Casey came to NEBCR with his brother when a serious dog allergy developed in their previous family after the arrival of a new baby. He handled the transition, separation from his brother, and move into his foster home remarkably well.
What stands out most about Casey is simply how sweet and loving he is. He has the intelligence and athleticism of a Border Collie, but also a gentle, affectionate side and a wonderful ability to settle. Casey is looking for a home with a secure physical fence, continued training, plenty of opportunities to exercise and use his clever brain, and a family who wants a very sweet boy by their side.
