About Hershall

** UPDATE **

As most of you know NEBCR took in 7 wonderful little souls recently. After being in two groups until old enough to go to their foster homes (and needless to say some are not leaving) it’s time for them to find their forever homes. I ended up fostering Hershall the only deaf pup of the litter. He is the most adorable little guy with the sharpest teeth known to man.

Hershall had a hard start to life almost not making it during birthing needing oxygen to get him jump started. You would never have a clue now smart, active and doing on the puppy “things”. He and I are learning sign language together, we are building a vocabulary day by day. He will be 11 weeks tomorrow and doing a fantastic job. Crate trained, house trained, knows 6 signs, he’s a little fetching machine and walks well on leash. Oh and the little guy likes to swim too. I have to give Katie credit for getting him off to such an awesome start.

Hershall though not on the website yet as often happens when socializing pups word gets out. I’m very happy it did because it brought the perfect adopter my way for Hershall. She had recently lost her deaf/vision impaired cattle dog, Wyatt. She had him from a pup teaching him 45 different signs. Wyatt did therapy even putting on shows at veteran homes, had a huge array of tricks, went hiking, camping, skiing with them, swimming and some agility when he was younger.

We had a couple hurdles to get over to make this happen. First she has an upcoming surgery and will need recovery time so thought she wouldn’t be considered. After seeing her application and having some conversations with her I felt no one would be a better match of this little guy and we hatched a plan. Hershall will be staying with me a bit longer so his adopter can recover. I’m more than happy to spend more time with him and get him into his perfect forever home after her recovery.

Remember I said perfect home, these pups coming from NY what are the chances Hershall will be living in the next town over from mine just 15 minutes away. Also his sister is being adopted and will also live in that town.

Hershalls adopter said “Deaf, easy, he is an upgrade for us with no vision issues”. They truly are the nicest people that can help Hershall blossom and realize his full potential.
