About Jaeger
Jaeger, a beautiful, eight-year-old male BC, is looking for “his” person. Someone to follow around the house, walk with, sleep with, learn from, share adventures with. If you are looking for a loving, active, classic BC, Jaeger is for you. He is currently fostered in central Vermont and is scheduled for neutering on February 12 (available soon after).
Jaeger currently has free range of the property without a fence; therefore, he could be placed in a home without a fence as long as it is in a rural setting well off the road.

House- and crate-trained, Jaeger is well-behaved inside and out. He will alert you when visitors arrive, but quickly settles. He knows basic commands of sit, wait, lie down, and is capable of learning much more. Once bonded, he has an awesome recall. The boy is an avid ball retriever, loves to swim, play in the snow, and take long walks.
Speaking of walks, this is a work in progress. His foster home has been working with him as he tends to keep the leash tight, especially if he crosses paths with a little critter. We would recommend that he be walked with a no-pull harness to make the walk more enjoyable for both of you at this time. He will sometimes bark at a jogger or passing car (mostly noisy vehicles), but is easily redirected. He could use more exposure to overcome these issues. Jaeger has done well off-leash, away from roads, in his foster home.

Like any respectable BC, Jaeger has a quirk: the TV. He thinks it’s interactive, at least for some shows, like cartoons or animals. He will bark and jump around, but ignores the programs he doesn’t find interesting.
Jaeger gets along well with most dogs. Since he is not yet neutered, he may initially try to hump other dogs who allow it, but is easily re-directed; we hope this behavior will change after the snip, but there are no guarantees. Although he lived as the sole dog in the household until recently, he has been comfortably sharing space with two easy-going, tolerant male dogs (a Jack Russell and a Husky) with minimal issues.

Public gatherings (parades or practices) with lots of people and pets are a bit stimulating for him, and he wants to check out everything, especially other dogs. At these gatherings, he was friendly with dog people who knew how to approach him, but when the approach was hesitant or tentative, he became anxious and could even air snap. Slow introductions work best with Jaeger.
For a short time, Jaeger lived in a home with young children. He was anxious about the noise and activity in the household. If young children are to be visiting, it would be important to manage the level of activity and interactions so that he does not get too nervous. It would be best to crate him making the visit enjoyable for all.

Outside, he is much more comfortable, especially if they are willing to play fetch. Jaeger has attended holiday gatherings with many guests (strangers to him). He was loose in the house and friendly to all. Dog-savvy children were there, and he did fine.

I should also mention that Jaeger would love to be your co-pilot on your travels. He’s very content to ride quietly, often napping between destinations.
Ideally, Jaeger finds a family offering a quiet home with space to chase balls, lots of time, no cats, and any children would be 12+, and – of course- lots of love. In return, you will have a devoted, loving companion.
