About Jett

** Adopted **

Jett came into rescue from a shelter as a stray.

Here’s what I’ve learned about him. He’s cute as punch, funny, affectionate, boisterous, a bit stubborn (aren’t we all?), smart, loves people and other dogs.

He is currently living with a 15 y/o female BC mix and a 3 year old Siberian Husky.

I was told he is good with children but have not had the opportunity to observe that myself. With his strong prey drive he is not a good match for anyone having a cat or other small animals.

His positives:

  1. Crate trained. After being here for a few days, he began to put himself to bed in his crate around 9:30, 10:00 p.m. He sleeps through until 7 or 8 a.m.
  2. Funny. I put an old fluffy bath mat in there on top of his blankets. He drags it around the house and makes a bed for himself in other locations.
  3. Adorable. He likes to give you a hug without being asked.
  4. Loves food.
  5. Dog friendly.
  6. Knows Sit/Down/Stay (briefly).
  7. I was told he did not have a recall or know his name. In the 2 weeks I’ve had him so far, he’s learned “Jett, come!” and comes on the fly from wherever he is in my home or yard.
  8. Could be a lap dog if allowed. We are working on personal boundaries.
  9. Respects my 15 year old female BC/GSD mix.
  10. House trained.
  11. Smart, eager to learn. Taught himself the pet door on day 3.
  12. Is Chipped, neutered, UTD, no known health problems.
  13. No resource guarding. Can be fully handled by a human
  14. He is FAST! I think he’d make a great agility dog or bike joring, or ski joring, or all of it.
  15. Despite all of this energy and intelligence, he also settles well at night and for naps in his crate when I can’t attend to him.
  16. Cute! Cute! Cute! and Affectionate.

Needs Help With:

  1. Leash walking. Initially, he was oblivious to my existence at the other end of the leash. Since using the gentle leader, leash walks have improved dramatically. And he has been paying attention to me when I say his name.
  2. High prey drive. Thus, the risk to chickens and cats.
  3. Jett is noise reactive. HOWEVER, he will come when called even when he’s busy barking at something. And, as he is getting familiar with some of the noises, he’s not reacting, i.e. the garbage trucks.
  4. Needs more training on the basics because they aren’t solid outside of a very quiet context.
  5. Needs to learn personal boundaries and the word “off”.
  6. Will counter surf if permitted.
  7. Jett was a bit anxious for his vet visit so will need help feeling more comfortable.

Jetts perfect match would be in a quiet setting, with a fully fenced yard (due to his prey drive). He would love to have a play buddy that matches his rambunctious play style and an active family to keep him exercised and content. We also feel Jett would be a great candidate for dog sports.
