Maya

Maya is a 14-week-old Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix who is as clever as she is sweet. She is a confident, social little girl with a surprisingly mature side for her age.

Maya loves to learn and is highly food motivated. She picks up new skills very quickly and already knows sit, down, touch, spin, paws up, and how to go to her crate. She also has a good start on her recall. These days, she has even learned to sit very properly and wait for instructions, although she is still very much a playful puppy!

She loves toys, playtime, and being involved in whatever is going on. Once settled into a routine, Maya is a very good puppy and does well with the structure of her foster home. She is mostly potty trained when kept on a consistent schedule, but her adopters should expect to continue reinforcing her good habits.

Like you would expect from a Border Collie/Aussie puppy, Maya is an active, energetic girl who will need both physical exercise and something to keep that clever brain busy. She is not looking for a couch-potato lifestyle! Dog sports, hiking, herding, training, or other activities she can enjoy with her people would all be great outlets for her. She has already shown how much she enjoys learning and having a job to do.

Maya currently lives with her sibling and three adult dogs. She loves other dogs and is very social with them. Like any young puppy, she is still learning proper doggy manners and when another dog has had enough. She responds very well to appropriate corrections from the experienced adult dogs in her foster home.

Maya has not been tested directly with cats. There is an older, dog-savvy cat in her foster home, but they have not spent time together. Based on her young age and temperament, we think she may do well with a dog-savvy cat with careful introductions and supervision.

Maya is a bright, confident little pup with all the makings of a fantastic companion. She is a healthy, happy puppy and a wonderful little blank slate for someone excited to continue shaping her into an amazing adult dog. She’ll thrive with an active family ready to continue her training, give her plenty to do, and enjoy watching that clever puppy brain at work.

NOTE: Preference will be given to adopters who have a plan to channel that energy and intelligence through training, dog sports, outdoor adventures, or other activities that will help them reach their full potential.
