About Sadie

Meet Sadie, a sweet, happy 6 -year-old, low to medium energy girl with a touch of spunkiness. Sadie came to NEBCR at no fault of her own after her previous owners were unable to care for her, finding herself at an Animal Controller’s office in upstate NY. She was confused, unsure and anxious when she first came but has settled nicely into a routine.

Sadie loves people and attention. She is a ready-to-go girl, up for anything /anywhere / anyplace, walks, rides or a game of what we call “bunny hop fetch”.

However, her happy place is going for walks where she can run and explore. She is great on a long line, staying close and checking in regularly. Sadie would do well on off-leash hikes. She has a SOLID recall, returning with a nice “heel position” for praise or a treat. Although her loose leash walking is a work in progress.

Being very food-motivated, she enjoys the simple things of life, learning tricks, puzzles, nose work, hunting for field mice, but at the end of the day it is all about lovings and cuddles on the couch.

Sadie is fascinated with cats showing too much interest in them; therefore she will need a home without cats.

Sadie can also be selective with other dogs. She does get along and will play with her foster brother. Even with that, they have had several discussions. She as well can be protective of her toys. She does become excitable and vocal when seeing other dogs. For these reasons, another dog may be considered if there is a proper introduction along with time and patience but feel Sadie would do best being the only dog where she can have all the attention.

Children are unknown but kids over 13 may be considered.

Along with her loose leash walking, crate training is also a work in progress. She rides well in the crate in the car. On the other hand, she is anxious at home in the crate. She will only tolerate short periods of time before trying to escape. Sadie prefers a safe room to a crate if left home alone; she is neither destructive or vocal. At home, she is a quiet girl but will alert you if there is someone at the door or an unexpected noise.

Unfortunately, Sadie has several old knee injuries that flare up. It is highly recommended that she stays on a daily joint supplement with the possibility of additional meds. Consequently, her physical activity may have to be limited at times. She does seem to know and will manage her own level of activity. Losing a couple extra pounds could also help alleviate her knee issue.

Sadie’s ideal home is where her person(s) has retired or works from home, no cats and the only dog. If you are looking for a loyal companion that will be by your side for whatever the day may bring with cuddles at night, Sadie could be the one.
