About Tara

** Adopted **

Say hello to Tara! This sweet lttle girl came into rescue after her owner passed, and has been adjusting well to life without him. She just celebrated her 8th birthday, and is still full of life, loving to run around the yard with her favorite blue rubber ball. She would prefer squirrels, but they keep running away!

Tara has a beautiful soft, curly coat, and the most amazing eyes. While the blue ball is her favorite outdoor toy – she will follow you around the yard with it, growling and pushing it into your leg. Indoors she loves to tug, and will bring you a rope or some other toy from her basket to play tug, or to retrieve if you throw it.

Tara is a real homebody, and will quite happily lie on the deck or under a tree watching the world go by. She never wanders far, and does not need a fenced yard. When visitors arrive, she runs to them with her tail wagging, and happily
escorts them to the house. Before her owner passed, Tara would accompany him on long journeys, sometimes hundreds of miles in a day, and she still gets very excited when a car door opens, hoping it means she will be going somewhere.

Tara would be best as an only dog. While she is not at all aggressive, when she encounters other dogs she just tries to avoid them, they making her uncomfortable. She had always been an only dog in her previous life. We’re not sure how she would be with cats, but given her nature we think she would be fine. She was a very good girl when our 18-month-old grandson visited, and liked him so much that she gave him kisses.

She would also prefer a single-story home since she never learned to climb stairs, but she has no problem with the few steps up to the front door of her foster home.

She loves to go walking, investigating everything she encounters on the way. Her leash manners are very good, and if we’ve been walking on our local road we let her off the leash at the end of the driveway and she happily trots back to the house, always looking back to make sure we’re following.

While walking, she does not react to cars, except to watch them go by, nor to cyclists. However, whenever we encounter another human, Tara has to say hello.

Tara has Addison’s disease, a condition caused by a deficiency in the steroid hormones produced by the adrenal gland. Her condition is well under control with a special injection every month, together with daily medication. High stress situations can cause dogs with Addison’s disease to urinate more frequently, so it is important that Tara be let out regularly, which is fine with her since she loves being outside.

Tara is looking for a home that is willing to manage her disease and give her time to adjust to all the changes in her life. She is an independent girl not needing a lot of attention other than someone to love her unconditionally. If Tara sounds like a good fit in your family please contact us for more information.
